Board Meeting Minutes: November 18, 2019

Annual Grant Review Meeting

Present: Chairperson Magi McEntire, Vice Chair Rhianon Collins, Lloyd Worth, Ann Taddeo, Clint Blackhurst, Janon Swink, Julie Stewart, Juan Luna, Peggy Jarrett, Ashley Settergren, Joan Kniss (arrived late)

  1. Meeting called to order by Chairperson McEntire.
  2. Approval of agenda – Motion made by Julie and second by Lloyd to revise the agenda to include a presentation by a representative of the Brighton Youth Baseball Association. Motion approved and agenda approved.
  3. Interviews were conducted for the following groups: Friends of Barr Lake, Brighton Youth Baseball Association, Kids First, Brighton Shares the Harvest, Jr. Achievement, Reaching Hope, Food for Hope, The Link.
  4. Grant Decision Process: Each request was reviewed and the following amounts were granted:
    1. Friends of Barr Lake and a partnership with the Bird Conservancy-Sensory Garden- $2000
    1. Junior Achievement- Curriculum and Training for classes at Henderson Elementary- $2500
    1. Reaching Hope- Counseling Scholarships for Trauma Victims- $8000
    1. The Link- Supplies for at risk youth- $1000
    1. Brighton Shares the Harvest- Donations to local farms for fresh produce- $1000
    1. Food for Hope- Supplemental Food for 27J students- $3000
    1. Kids First Health Clinic- Research program- $3000
    1. Brighton Youth Baseball- Marketing materials- $4000
    1. Coal Creek Adult Center- Adult ESL classes- $2000
    1. CASA- Volunteer Advocate Program- $4000
    1. Family Tree- Services and support for families of abuse and homelessness-$3000
    1. Calvary Chapel Food Pantry- $3000
    1. Seventh Day Adventist Food Pantry- $2000
    1. St Augustine Food Pantry- $12,000
    1. Almost Home- Support for homeless prevention and rental assistance- $10,000
    1. Brighton Youth Commission- S.P.E.A.K. Week- $6000
    1. Pennock Center for Counseling- Counseling support for youth-$10,000
    1. Richard Lambert Foundation- Counseling and grief support- $10,000
    1. Senior Hub- Homecare services for seniors- $5000
  5. October minutes- Revisions were made: Delete section on Absences; delete II. B. about the Outside agency account. Revised minutes approved.
  6. Financial report- Janon Swink, treasurer, reported that $1295 was earned via Karaoke fundraiser. In January Janon will have a more thorough report.
  7. Old Business- On December 5 TBK Bank will host an Afterhours event and proceeds to go to Legacy.
  8. New Business- We will not have a meeting in December; however, we will have a holiday lunch on Dec 9 at 11:30 at Heaven Dragon.
  9. Next meeting: January 20, 11:30 at Almost Home.  Lunch will be provided by Team C.
  10. Motion to adjourn by Lloyd with second by Magi. Motion carried.
